The cut paper collages are forms of visual meditations. The subjects are often landscapes with trees, houses, animals, plants and figures. Usually, I begin with no exact idea. Working with scissors and paper seems to free the mind and can bring some unexpected results. Some pieces are simple and decorative while others may contain narrative elements- parts of a story. Questions may be raised,” who are these people? Why are there four moons? Is the horse or bird a symbol for something else ?” I will often make copies of these collages, then work on top of them with paint or other materials.
